can i claim

Do I qualify for compensation from the RAF?

Any person who was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident on any South African road, as a driver or passenger of a vehicle or a pedestrian that was injured as a result of an accident, may possibly qualify. In this instance motor vehicles include cars, motorcycles, bicycles,  farm vehicles and public transport.

You can also qualify for compensation as a dependent of any person that falls into one of the above mentioned categories, but that passed away as a result of an accident.

Any person may lodge a claim with the RAF, but not every claim will qualify for compensation. The possibility of being compensated and the settlement amount are dependent on a number of factors and circumstances, that include the severity of the injuries sustained by the claimant, age, employment status, relationship with the deceased in case of claiming as a dependent and the deceased’s age and employment status. These are only some of the factors that determine the possibility of compensation and the settlement amount in case of financial compensation.

If you were the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident, it is very important to remember that your actions must not have caused the accident, as this will preclude you from claiming from the RAF.
